Are You New to Acupuncture?
I bring a special focus to treating first-time acupuncture patients. Your comfort, and your understanding that acupuncture is a successful medical intervention, are paramount to the success of the treatment process.
At least five factors contribute to the comfort of the person receiving acupuncture:
- Respecting patient boundaries.
- Maintaining patient confidentiality.
- Answering all questions about acupuncture and the treatment plan clearly, honestly and completely.
- Employing appropriate and professional acupuncture techniques.
- Providing a comfortable physical environment, from lighting to ambient temperature to playing music.
Because acupuncture involves the use of fine, sterile needles, some first-time patients have an understandable fear of the unknown. My experience in working with new patients is that respecting this fear and educating the individual about the acupuncture process allays these legitimate concerns and enlists his or her energies toward treatment and healing.
Let me know how best to keep you comfortable and involved in the treatment process. Many patients engage in conversation during treatment, and many fall asleep once the needles have been applied. At the root of Chinese medicine is yin and yang. The yang aspect of treatment is the active intervention, including the application of needles. The yin is the deep place you can go to during the period of rest while needles are retained.
Bring your own favorite music and relax!
